What social media management software really costs in 2026

Nine tools, four billing models, and the three multipliers pricing pages keep quiet: annual billing, metered posts and add-ons. Every price in this guide was read on the vendor's own page on the same day, and the maths is done for three real situations.

The Echoia team13 min

Nobody can tell you what these tools cost by naming one number, because the industry runs on four different billing models, and the same team can pay 39 dollars or 600 for the same month of work depending on which model it wandered into. This guide names the four models, prices them with figures read on each vendor's public page on 9 September 2026, and does the arithmetic for three real situations.

Disclosure before anything else: we make one of the tools mentioned here. The prices are verifiable on every vendor's page, the maths is reproducible, and where a competitor is the cheaper answer, this guide says so.

The four billing models, and what each one punishes

Per channel. Buffer charges $5 to $10 a month for every social account you connect. Transparent, and kind to small footprints: four channels on Essentials is $20 a month. It punishes breadth: the brand present everywhere pays for every everywhere, forever.

Per seat. Hootsuite ($99 to $399 per user, billed annually) and Sprout Social ($79 to $399 per user) charge for people. It punishes teamwork: the tool costs nothing extra to show your colleague, but the login does. Three people on Sprout's Standard tier is $597 a month.

Per workspace or brand. Planable ($33 to $49 per workspace) and Metricool (€16 to €130 by brand count) charge for each client or brand container. Kind to big teams on one brand, expensive for agencies with many small clients.

Flat plans. SocialBee ($29 to $449 by profile count), Postiz ($29 to $99 by channel count) and Echoia ($39 to $200 by connected accounts, with unlimited seats on every plan) sell a bundle. The question to ask a flat plan is what is quietly metered inside it, which brings us to the multipliers.

The three multipliers pricing pages keep quiet

Annual billing presented as monthly. Hootsuite's $99 and Sprout's $79 are monthly numbers you can only have by committing to a year. Later shows $18.75 with the same asterisk; the month-to-month price is $25. Multiply by twelve before comparing anything, and check whether the number you are reading exists without a commitment.

Metered posts. Later's entry plan includes 30 posts per profile per month, Planable's includes 60 per workspace, Metricool's free tier 20 in total. None of this matters until the week it does: a launch, a sale, a crisis. Check the meter before checking the price.

Add-ons for the daily job. Planable sells analytics at $12 and the inbox at $7.50 per workspace per month on top of the plan; Metricool sells X (Twitter) connectivity as an extra on most tiers; Sprout puts sentiment analysis on its $399 Advanced seat, and listening is a paid add-on there and at Echoia ($79) alike. The pattern to watch: is answering your customers part of the plan, or an option?

Three situations, priced end to end

One person, four channels, light posting. Buffer Essentials: $20. Metricool Starter: €16. SocialBee Bootstrap: $29. Echoia's free plan covers three accounts with unmetered posting, and its paid Starter at $39 is not the cheap answer here: at this size, per-channel pricing wins, and Buffer or Metricool is the honest recommendation.

A brand: ten accounts, three people, daily replies. Buffer Team: $100 a month, and engagement still lives in the native apps. Hootsuite Standard: $297, billed annually. Sprout does not fit at entry (five profiles per plan below Professional). Planable Pro with the inbox add-on: about $57, with 150 posts metered. Postiz Team: $39, publishing only. Echoia Starter: $39 with the inbox, sentiment and unlimited seats included. This is the size where flat plans with an inbox stop being one option among many and start being the point; it is also, transparently, the situation we built for.

An agency: thirty profiles, five people. Hootsuite Professional at five seats: $995, billed annually. SocialBee Pro50: $179. Postiz Pro: $49, publishing only. Metricool Advanced: €43 to €130 by brand count. Echoia Pro: $79 for forty accounts across three workspaces. The spread on this row is twenty-fold, for the same month of work: the billing model, not the feature list, is what you are choosing.

How to read any pricing page in four questions

Is the displayed price monthly or annual-billed-monthly? What is metered: posts, seats, profiles, and where is YOUR ceiling in that meter? Is answering people (comments and messages) included at the tier you can afford, or an add-on? And what happens to the bill the day you add a colleague, a client, or a channel: that last question is the entire difference between the four models, and the one nobody prints in the comparison table.

Every number, sourced
Prices read on 9 September 2026 on the public pricing pages of Buffer, Hootsuite, Later, Sprout Social, Postiz, Metricool, SocialBee, Planable and Echoia. The per-tool detail, with links to each source, lives on our alternatives pages and comparison pages. If a vendor changes its pricing, their page wins over this guide; tell us and we will update it.

The daily loop is the part that hurts when you are alone. Echoia puts every platform’s comments and messages in one inbox, so the fifteen minutes stay fifteen minutes.
